On the other hand, Bush doesn't have any credibility on this issue. If he had ever vetoed a previous transportation bill, or even endorsed efforts by anti-pork members of Congress to get rid of stuff like the Bridge to Nowhere, then we might have some reason to believe what he says. Instead, it just comes across as a dishonest, dogmatic opposition to tax increases. Although in his defense, it probably has a lot to do with incompetence and the lack of real leadership qualities, as well.
